General Description:

Designs, develops and improves new or existing products and directs the manufacturing and testing of prototypes.

Essential Functions

  • Originates and/or develops designs for products related to defined customer needs including the adaptation of existing designs to new customer applications.

  • Lays out complete products and systems and prepares assembly and detail drawings utilizing AutoCAD.

  • Makes various calculations such as strength of materials, weights, simple forces and stresses, using charts and tables as required.

  • Analyzes various design requirements and recommends possible solutions or alternate methods of manufacturing.

  • Provides information when required for cost estimating.

  • Analyzes new materials, equipment invoices, and engineering practices for efficiency and cost reduction.

  • Prepares bills of materials as required.

General Description:

Maintain Engineering Specifications and other related technical records in accordance with an established system of recording and indexing to provide a consolidated source of reference.

Essential Functions

  • Compile and classify data to existing product records.

  • Establish new product files.

  • Change specification records to suit engineering revisions.

  • Research and provide information as requested by the engineering department, sales department, cost accounting, etc. having to do with product, unit and part numbers and specifications, standard relationships, drawing numbers, etc.

  • Produce new and revised drawings as required using Autocad.

Job Description:

Apply prepared paints, i.e. Industrial enamel to products and components where quality finishes are required.

Essential Functions

  • Reads and interprets shop orders and from listed paint code determines what color paint is to be used.

  • Mix paint with SOL vents to achieve the proper viscosity for spraying.

  • Adjust the spray gun to obtain the required finish, coverage, and economy.

  • Fill paint sprayer pot as required.

  • Start fans and/or ventilating equipment to remove fumes and paint fog.

  • Visually inspect products for proper surface preparation, i.e. remove dust, rust, dirt, grease, and oil as required using solvents and wire brush.

  • Touch up product as required.

  • Wear and maintain proper personal protective equipment, i.e. gloves, goggles, glasses, respirators and aprons.

  • Clean, and maintain paint spray booth changing filters as required.

  • Load and unload parts and components as required using a hoist and fork truck.

  • Notifies supervisor or coordinator of any unusual conditions, breakdowns and material and supply shortages.

ACS, located in Lynchburg, VA, has an opening for a Welder / Fitter to perform automatic gas welding (M.I.G.) in all positions fitting and repairing a wide variety of parts, products and equipment.

Welder / Fitter essential functions are as follows:

  • Set up and operate welder as required.

  • Performs work requiring knowledge of welding properties of steel, weld heat requirements, stress relief, allowances for fit-up and machines, shrinkage, warpage, and expansion.

ACS, located in Lynchburg, VA, has an opening for a Sales Service AutoCAD Technician to design plant layouts and prepare pricing quotations per the requirements from information received through the salesperson or customer.

Sales Service AutoCAD Technician essential functions are as follows:

  • Knowledge of ACS conveyor application and interfacing with existing or new equipment.  Reviews and interprets prints, sketches, and written or verbal requests received from sales or the customer to determine what equipment is to be quoted.

  • Researches and reviews previous shop orders and documentation from the specific customer location.

  • Reads and interprets blueprints and facilities layout.

  • Utilizing AutoCAD software, draws/creates price proposal layout, recognizing the required product interfacing with new or existing equipment.

  • Prepares written quotes utilizing ACS quote program.

  • For written or verbal requests, w/o prints, utilize ACS price manual to determine cost.

  • Prepares sequence of operations if required.

  • Verifies that all the equipment requested by sales or the customer has been included in the quote.

  • Submits finished quote to the department manager for final check and approval.

  • Review cover letter and signs as required.

  • After quote submittal, answer customer/sales questions as required.

  • Introduces new and/or improved product design by interfacing with both the mechanical and electrical engineering departments.

  • Files finished quote for future use, and enters data for network archiving.

Job Description:

ACS, located in Lynchburg, VA, has an opening for an Electrical Controls Design Engineer. This position is responsible for designing, developing and programming all electrical parts and components related to the conveyor and all its appurtenant programs and systems.

As an Electrical Controls Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and support implementation of PLC-based control systems for conveyors and related equipment both in the plant as well as the following:

  • Design control panels using various software packages such as AutoCAD.

  • Prepares field component layout including conveyor layout and sectionalizes conveyor per control systems requirement.

  • Sketch field components such as motors, solenoids, photo eyes, and limit switches on field layout.

  • Selects programmable controller best suited for the project according to I/O requirements, memory requirements and customer requirements.

  • Provides technical information and assistance on matters dealing with special parts and components.

  • Designs and specs motor and control circuits in accordance with UL508A specifications.

  • Designs push-button controls/consoles per system requirements.
After performing power calculations select the proper control transformer and circuit breakers.

  • Generates bill of materials required for control panel, consoles and field components.

  • Completes production order notifying manufacturing group as to what items need to be manufactured, wired and pre-wired.

  • Support building and wiring of control panels. 

  • Submits layout sketch, schematics sketch, bill of materials and production worksheet to the drafting department.

  • Reviews preliminary drawings and bills of material and makes changes and corrections as required.

  • Re-submit changes and corrections to the drafting department and approve the final draft with signature authorization. Releases to manufacturing for entry into production schedule.

  • Writes and troubleshoots programs for PLC – PLC LadderLogic.

  • As required, writes basic programs, C programs or D base programs.

  • Coordinate needs, such as interfaces, with other vendors.

  • Provides telephone support for field installation and troubleshooting.

  • Handles customer service problems as required.

  • Provide on & off-site customer support & training.

  • Work overtime as required.

In order to qualify for this position, you will meet or exceed the following requirements: 

  • Electrical Engineering degree with an emphasis on Industrial Control Systems (Associate or Bachelor) 

  • Experience with one or more computer programming languages 

  • PLC programming experience, especially with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation products 

  • Formal post-high school electrical education combined with relevant experience providing a knowledge of DC and AC circuitry 

  • Computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and CAD software 

  • Ability to understand basic mechanical and electrical schematic drawings

ACS, located in Lynchburg, VA, has an opening for an Installation / Field Service Technician to travel to our client’s sites to install, repair and troubleshoot the conveyor and its related appurtenances.

As an Installation Technician, you will be responsible for following directions in order to accomplish all tasks in the requisite amount of time.

In order to qualify for this position, you will need:

  • Base knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical is a plus.

  • Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16th of an inch.

  • Good written & oral communication skills.

  • Ability to travel on a frequent basis from customer’s job site to job site. ACS will fly the employee in and out of their home airport, or the employee will use an ACS-rented vehicle to drive, or ride, to the site.

  • Ability to work well with others.

  • Ability to interact well with customers and vendors.

Additional Fringe-benefits and Non-wage Compensation Benefits: 

  • Travel required is about 28 days out (flexible), and 7-10 days at home after for a break.

  • Once you are at home for a break, you do not need to report to work and will be the employee’s time off until the next trip out.

  • Paid travel across the United States – ACS will pay 100% of all expenses for travel, and the employee will be paid while traveling. Per Diem will be given daily to each employee who travels with ACS. The employee does not need to provide their own transportation.

Job Description:

ACS, located in Lynchburg, VA, has an opening for an Electrical / PLC Programming Field Service Technician. This position is responsible for installation, testing and start-up of all electrical parts and components related to the conveyor and all its appurtenant programs and systems.

As an Electrical / PLC Programming Field Service Technician, you will be responsible for the fieldwork support implementation of PLC-based control systems for conveyors and related equipment: 

  • Complying with employee safety policies, GMP, OSHA Safety and Health rules as well as on-location customer safety policies and procedures

  • Installs and maintains all electrical and electronic plant and production equipment. This equipment includes motors, electrical/electronic controls and systems, PLCs, AC/DC drives, computerized controls, and other related equipment

  • Minimizes downtime by fast and accurate troubleshooting of PLC programs and electrical/electronic circuits and equipment

  • Performs preventive/predictive maintenance on plant and production electrical and electronic equipment

  • Performs general mechanical troubleshooting, maintenance and installations as needed

  • Assists in the management of all plant CAD drawings which includes the building layout as well as machinery electrical parts

  • Serve as an electrical/electronic controls consultant with the installation of new equipment and existing equipment

  • Plans assigned work and is responsible for his/her safety and the safety of others in the area

  • Performs additional duties as assigned

As well as a drive to learn and succeed in Manufacturing, to be considered for this position you must be able to meet the following requirements:

Required:                 

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

  • A two-year Associate Degree in electrical/electrical technology and 2 years of applicable experience or 4 years of electrical experience in a heavy industrial environment

  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the principles of electricity and electronics

  • Advanced Allen Bradley, PLC and HMI programming skills

  • Experience troubleshooting PLC programs and hardware

  • May be required to work all shifts (on occasion)

  • Required to work overtime and weekends as needed

  • Must have experience with RS Logix (5, 500, and 5000) software and HMI control

  • Must have a working knowledge of the National Electric Code

  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical and electronic/mechanical drawings, prints, schematics, and computer programs

Job Description:

ACS, located in Lynchburg, VA, has an opening for a Pre-Wire Technician to assemble electrical or electronic systems or support structures and install components, units, sub-assemblies, wiring, or assembly casings, using rivets, bolts, soldering or micro-welding equipment.

Pre-Wire Technician’s essential functions are as follows:

  • Receives written and verbal instruction from supervisor.

  • Fabricate electrical sub-assemblies per detailed instructions;

  • Wire custom control panels per detailed schematics;

  • Hardwire equipment per drawings;

  • Inspect or test wiring installations, assemblies, or circuits for resistance factors or for operation and record results;

  • Adjust, repair, or replace electrical component parts to correct defects and to ensure conformance to specifications;

  • Clean parts, using cleaning solutions, air hoses, and cloths;

  • Read and interpret schematic drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, work orders, or reports to determine materials requirements or assembly instructions;

  • Maintain a clean and safe environment through a continued program of daily sweeping and general cleaning;

  • Locates, positions, and moves necessary material and parts using a hoist and fork truck.

  • Checks fabricated and purchased parts and materials for deviation from required specifications.

  • Performs pre-wiring of motors, photo eyes, sensors, measuring wheels, and terminates wiring at the control panel.

  • Performs electrical start-up and troubleshooting as required.

  • Notifies the supervisor of any unusual conditions of material, drawings, parts, and shop equipment.

  • Meets acceptable time/work standards.

  • Works in accordance with established safety policies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

In order to qualify for this position, you will have: 

  • High school degree or equivalent

  • The position typically expects three (3) to five (5) years of direct/relevant experience based on the scope of the position

  • Ability to read electrical schematics

  • Willing and able to work overtime as required

  • Possess problem-solving capabilities

  • Must be detail-oriented and able to multitask

  • Maintain composure in a fast-paced, stressful environment

  • Mission-focused with a sense of urgency when required

  • Must have a positive attitude and foster a continuous improvement environment

The ideal candidate would be proficient at all aspects of electrical installation including but not limited to: Bending and installation of rigid conduit / wire-way, wire and cable pull and wire terminations. Strong control wiring background and control panel fabrication experience are a plus.

Job Description:

ACS, located in Lynchburg, VA, has an opening for an Assembly Mechanic to assemble complex and precision mechanical assemblies and complicated mechanisms having critical dimensional specification and operating relationships where fitting of components, calibrations of operating units, and alignment.

Assembly Mechanic essential functions are as follows:

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, and bills of material for advanced and complex products such as ring turntables and power transfer cars.

  • Locates, positions, and moves necessary material and parts using a hoist and fork truck.

  • Checks fabricated and purchased parts and materials for deviation from required specifications.

  • Loads and unloads trucks as required.

  • Performs layout of “special” parts as required.

  • Operates various metal fabricating machines to fabricate “special” parts.

  • Performs pre-wiring of motors, photo eyes, sensors, measuring wheels, and terminates wiring at the control panel.

  • Performs electrical start-up and troubleshooting as required.

  • Performs arc welding as required.

  • Receives written and verbal instruction from supervisor.

  • Notifies the supervisor of any unusual conditions of material, drawings, parts, and shop equipment.

  • Meets acceptable time/work standards.

  • Keeps immediate work area clean and orderly.

  • Works in accordance with established safety policies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

In order to qualify for this position, you will have: 

  • High school degree or equivalent

  • The position typically expects three (3) to five (5) years of direct/relevant experience based on the scope of the position

  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics

  • Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16th of an inch

  • Willing and able to work overtime as required

  • Possess problem-solving capabilities

  • Must be detail-oriented and able to multitask

  • Maintain composure in a fast-paced, stressful environment

  • Mission-focused with a sense of urgency when required

  • Must have a positive attitude and foster a continuous improvement environment

  • Ability to work well with others
