Job Description:

ACS, located in Lynchburg, VA, has an opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer. This position is responsible for researching, designing, developing and improving new or existing products and equipment and directs the manufacturing and testing of prototypes.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Assists in the development of standard products such as standard conveyors and fork truck stations.

  • From existing standards modify as required to meet customer requirements.

  • Lays out complete products and systems and prepares assembly and detail drawings utilizing AutoCAD.

  • Prepares bills of materials as required.

  • Assists in the investigation and analysis of new materials.

  • Assists in preparing engineering computations, estimates, surveys and minor designs.

  • Originates and/or develops complex designs for products relating to defined customer needs including the adaptation of existing designs to new customer applications.

  • Makes various calculations such as strength of materials, weights, simple forces and stresses, using charts and tables as required.

  • Analyzes various design requirements and recommends possible solutions or alternate methods of manufacturing.

  • Provides information when required for cost estimating.

  • Analyzes new materials, equipment invoices, and engineering practices for efficiency and cost reduction.

  • Plans and directs the manufacturing of prototypes to meet customer requirements.

  • Works in accordance with established safety practices.

In order to qualify for this position, you will meet or exceed the following requirements:

  • Extensive (10-20 years) prior Mechanical Engineering / Design experience

  • Mechanical Engineering degree (Associate or Bachelor)

  • Computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office

  • Must be proficient in using the following software:

  • 3D AutoCAD

  • Mechanical Desktop

  • Inventor

  • Ability to understand basic mechanical and electrical schematic drawings

  • Good written & oral communication skills

  • Ability to work well with others

  • Ability to work overtime as needed

  • Have the desire and self-initiative to be willing to continuously learn
