Job Description:
ACS, located in Lynchburg, VA, has an opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer. This position is responsible for researching, designing, developing and improving new or existing products and equipment and directs the manufacturing and testing of prototypes.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:
Assists in the development of standard products such as standard conveyors and fork truck stations.
From existing standards modify as required to meet customer requirements.
Lays out complete products and systems and prepares assembly and detail drawings utilizing AutoCAD.
Prepares bills of materials as required.
Assists in the investigation and analysis of new materials.
Assists in preparing engineering computations, estimates, surveys and minor designs.
Originates and/or develops complex designs for products relating to defined customer needs including the adaptation of existing designs to new customer applications.
Makes various calculations such as strength of materials, weights, simple forces and stresses, using charts and tables as required.
Analyzes various design requirements and recommends possible solutions or alternate methods of manufacturing.
Provides information when required for cost estimating.
Analyzes new materials, equipment invoices, and engineering practices for efficiency and cost reduction.
Plans and directs the manufacturing of prototypes to meet customer requirements.
Works in accordance with established safety practices.
In order to qualify for this position, you will meet or exceed the following requirements:
Extensive (10-20 years) prior Mechanical Engineering / Design experience
Mechanical Engineering degree (Associate or Bachelor)
Computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office
Must be proficient in using the following software:
3D AutoCAD
Mechanical Desktop
Inventor
Ability to understand basic mechanical and electrical schematic drawings
Good written & oral communication skills
Ability to work well with others
Ability to work overtime as needed
Have the desire and self-initiative to be willing to continuously learn
